Nestled in the quiet village of Tembok along the exotic northeast Bali's exotic coast of black sand fringed by soaring volcanic peaks, Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali is a secluded haven that embodies the gentle spirituality of this magical isle.
Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is the main airport in Bali, located 13 km south of Denpasar and is connected by international flights from major destinations around the world. Your journey from the airport to Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali will continue in a private car transfer.
Your personal journey of restoration begins from your arrival at the Denpasar International Airport where (upon prior arrangement of a private car transfer with us) you are met by our personal driver who will assist you in settling into your scenic journey to the rustic village of Tembok. This drive is an ideal opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty of the Balinese environment which transitions from bustling cityscape to tiny villages and picturesque rice paddy fields. Two driving routes are available, with the leisurely journey taking 2.5 hours per way.
The East Coast
Whilst being the longer route of the two, the east coast journey offers stunning views of both the sea and mountains of Bali. From the airport, you will skirt Sanur, a coastal town that was the landing site for Dutch troops during the 1906 invasion of Bali and also the landing point for Japanese forces during World War II. Continue towards Candidasa, where you can break to visit the nearby village of Tenganan, the residence of the Bali Aga, a community of the original inhabitants of Bali that still retain their ancient Balinese culture, said to be pre-Majapahit or 12th century.
The journey continues through the regency of Karangasem, situated at the base of the majestic Mount Agung - the highest mountain on the island and of great spiritual significance to the Balinese. While here, embark on an off-route visit to the Besakih Temple (Pura Besakih), considered the most important Mother Temple by the Hindu Balinese, consisting of more than 20 separate temples and numerous smaller shrines. Continue your journey through Singaraja, passing Tirtagangga, the water palace built in ancient times by the King of Karangasem.
The drive will take you past the small fishing village of Tulamben, one of the most popular dive sites in Bali. In the waters lies the shipwreck of the Liberty, sunk by a Japanese torpedo during World War II. The final leg of your journey will take you through the lush agricultural village of Brina before arriving at the spa resort.
Through the mountains
This shorter route takes you through the mountains across the middle of this magical island. From the airport, you will pass Sanur, a popular beachside town, towards Batubulan village. This charming village of artisans is well-known for its sculptures and carvings produced with skills handed down through the generations, and also for the Barong dance, a classic story of good versus evil when the Barong saves the world from the witch Rangda.
The drive continues towards the Singapadu, Sayan and Payangan villages, headed to Kintamani. En route you will pass by Ubud, regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. While art galleries and museums abound here, other sites to visit include the Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah), an ornately carved cave nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Poet Mountain (Gunung Kawi), a burial complex located at the bottom of a steep valley with stunning views of paddy fields; and Tirta Empul, a highly revered temple built around hot springs where Balinese go to bathe and purify themselves.
Your northbound journey provides dramatic views of the active volcano Mount Batur as it passes through Kintamani. This area is made up of four villages, with Kintamani, Batur and Penelokan villages sitting on the rim of Mount Batur caldera and Toyo Bungkah village by the edge of Lake Batur. Kintamani is a scenic area worth a stop along the route with its climate being 15°C cooler than on the coast.
Your drive will continue through the quaint villages of Dause and Bondalem, passing through winding roads towards Karangasem that provides majestic views of Mount Agung, after which you will arrive at the spa resort.
